Admiral Kinnaird R. McKee commanded an experimental submarine—the USS X-1, and played a strategic role in planning naval forces during the Cold War.

Former USNA Superintendent, 4-Star Admiral Among Recently Deceased
Admiral Kinnaird R McKee, 84, passed away on December 30, 2013, in Annapolis following an extended illness.

Through his illustrious career, McKee commanded an experimental submarine—the USS X-1, served as immediate staff to the Chief of Naval Operations, and served as superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy from 1975-1978. McKee also played a key role in the planning of naval forces during the Cold War. In 1988, McKee retired from a 41-year career with the  Navy to the Eastern Shore, where he pursued his love of sailing.
