North Sails Opens Its First U.S. Clothing Store
Sail-maker North Sails has sold nautical clothes online; it's about to open its first storefront in Annapolis, followed by NYC and Newport.
ANNAPOLIS, MD — A company that got its start, and continues to do business as a sail maker, is opening its first retail clothing store in Annapolis.
North Sails Apparel will open its doors on Saturday, Aug. 6, at 110 Dock St. in Harbor Square. Until now, the company’s nautical-style clothing for men and women could only be purchased online.
The North Sails store will feature outerwear for men and women with what the company calls innovative and advanced materials, one-of-a-kind sailing accessories, waterproof bags, swimwear, pants, shorts, dresses, T-shirts, knits and polo shirts. It collection is modern, features ergonomic fits for comfort and freedom of movement, and is made from breathable, waterproof fabrics.

While Annapolis is the first location for a brick and mortar shop, additional stores will open later this fall in New York City and Newport, RI.
Hours for the Annapolis store are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

North Sails was founded in 1957 by Lowell North, who applied an engineer’s logic to the traditional craft of sailmaking.
