Police have charged a Millersville man with attempted murder for allegedly slicing another man's face with a box cutter after the suspect found his girlfriend in an unoccupied office with the half-naked victim.
Officers from the Southern District were called to 116 Defense Highway in Annapolis Thursday to check on a man with a head injury who was partially clothed. That person was the victim of an attack who had been sliced across his face and was bleeding heavily, police said in a news release.
The investigation revealed that the victim was in an unoccupied office on the fifth floor of the Conte building with a female companion. The woman's boyfriend, James Kerry Bennett, 43, of the 200 block of Michele Circle in Millersville, entered the office and saw the two. Police allege that Bennett then sliced the victim's face with a box cutter and then fled the building.
According to the news release, officers found Bennett hiding in the women’s bathroom of the Wendy’s restaurant on Defense Highway and Housley Road. He was arrested without incident.
Officers found a yellow box cutter while searching the grounds around the Wendy’s.
The victim's injuries were not life threatening, but required a significant number of sutures to close his wounds, authorities said.
Bennett is being charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
