A section of MD 450/Defense Highway could be closed up to two weeks while a sinkhole is fixed.

ANNAPOLIS, MD – A section of MD 450/Defense Highway could be closed up to two weeks while a sinkhole is fixed. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration said it closed a section of the road linking Annapolis and Crofton between A and Eagle Boulevard and Windermere Court in Anne Arundel County Tuesday morning. The work will include excavation and the replacement of two 5-foot diameter pipes under the roadway.
“Crews will work throughout the day and night to expedite repairs,” said District 5 Engineer Corren Johnson in a news release. “The road will be closed for up to two weeks. Both lanes will be closed 24 hours a day, allowing contractors to complete these emergency road repairs.”
- Westbound MD 450 drivers will be directed to a detour route which includes Housley Road to MD 178 to Crownsville Road and back to MD 450.
- Eastbound MD 450 drivers will use Crownsville Road to MD 178 to Housley Road and back to MD 450.
