United Way of Central Maryland to Kick Off 2nd Annual Healthy Food Drive
The weeklong event series begins Friday, May 2.
According to UWCM, more than 325,000 children and adults in central Maryland don’t get the proper nutrition because they lack access to healthy food.
Among the events that will be showcased is the second annual Executive Showdown Healthy Cook-Off, food drives at schools, offices and grocery stores, plus volunteer events. During one event, from 10 a.m. to noon on May 3, volunteers will serve warm meals at the Lighthouse Shelter, 10 Hudson Street in Annapolis, in the spirit of the old folk tale “Stone Soup."
"Hunger is a serious issue we need to address in our community particularly during the summer when kids aren't in school getting breakfast, lunch and sometimes even dinner," Molly Shattuck, UWCM's healthy food ambassador, said in a press release. “Through Families Living United Healthy Food Week it’s so easy to get involved and make a difference.”
