Beltway Motel Shooting Suspect Not Yet Charged

Officials have not yet charged the suspect in the Aug. 29 police-involved shooting at the Beltway Motel, who is still hospitalized at University of Maryland Medical Center, according to police.

The man's identity has not been released.

The 42-year-old suspect was shot multiple times after approaching police with a rifle while naked, according to officials.

At around 3:40 a.m. on Aug. 29, officers responded to the motel, located on the 3600 block of Washington Boulevard, after receiving reports of a naked man inside a room shooting a rifle through the window.

Police officers made their way to the second floor of the motel and encountered the suspect, who refused to comply with officers orders to drop his weapon, according to police spokeswoman Cpl. Cathleen Batton.

Officers fired their weapons when the man moved towards them, striking him several times, Batton said.

In most cases, police do not charge suspects until they have been released from hospitalization, according to Precinct 1/Wilkens commander Capt. John Spiroff.

Suspects are not identified until they have been charged, officials said.
