Wednesday's $1.76 billion Powerball jackpot was the second-largest in U.S. lottery history. Four Maryland players won $50,000 prizes, while a California player won the top prize.

MARYLAND — Four Maryland lottery players failed to capture the $1.76 billion Powerball jackpot on Wednesday night but still scored major prizes, all of them winning $50,000, while a ticket in California landed the top purse.

There were four $50,000 winning tickets sold at the following locations:

  • Giant #2318 at 10210 Mill Run Circle in Owings Mills
  • 7-Eleven #33247 at 3901 Pulaski Highway in Abingdon
  • Harris Teeter #409 at 227700 Sweet Shrub Drive in Clarksburg
  • Martins #6444 at 18726 North Pointe Drive in Hagerstown

  • Powerball sales in Maryland from July 20 through Oct. 11 totaled more than $58.5 million
  • Maryland Powerball players won more than $10.1 million on those tickets
  • And because about 26 percent of the Lottery's sales are returned to the state in the form of contributions to the General Fund, Powerball sales from July 20 through Oct. 11 contributed about $15 million to the state
  • During the roll, there were 27 Powerball tickets sold in Maryland that were worth at least $50,000
  • There were also two $1 million winning Powerball tickets sold — both of those remain unclaimed as of Oct. 12. The two $1 million winners were sold:
    • Sept. 30 at Golden Ring Liquors, 8651 Philadelphia Road in Rosedale
    • Sept. 27 at Duck In, 5610 East Market Street in Snow Hill
  • All winners have 182 days from the drawing date to claim their prizes

The winning numbers in the drawing Oct. 11 were white balls 22, 24, 40, 52, 64 and a red Power Ball of 10. The Power Play multiplier was 2X. Wednesday night's jackpot was the second-largest jackpot in Powerball history, only behind the $2.04 billion jackpot hit last November (also in California).

California's jackpot winner will have the choice between getting the estimated $1.765 billion prize paid out over time, or a lump sum payment of $774.1 million (before taxes).

“Congratulations to the newest Powerball billionaire and the millions of Powerball players who won other cash prizes in last night’s drawing,” said Drew Svitko, Powerball Product Group Chair and Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director. “For 31 years, some players who have dreamed about winning a Powerball jackpot have defied the odds, and in doing so, have helped generate critical funding for public services and programs supported by U.S. lotteries."
