MD Weather: Freeze Warning, Frost Advisory Issued For Sunday Morning

As MD temperatures drop into the low 30s, the National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning and a frost advisory early Sunday.

MARYLAND — As temperatures drop overnight, the National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning, a frost advisory and a hazardous weather statement for parts of Maryland. Tonight, be sure to cover up vulnerable outdoor plants.

The freeze warning and the frost advisory are in effect for the Washington and Baltimore metropolitan areas, as well as northeastern Maryland, from 2 a.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday, as overnight lows drop to 33 to 36 degrees.

Frost with temperatures near freezing are possible during the overnight and early morning hours Sunday night through Monday morning. Frost or freeze conditions may kill crops and other
sensitive vegetation, the weather service said.

The freeze warning includes: Carroll, northern Baltimore, northwest Montgomery, northwest Howard, and northwest Harford counties, along with the cities of Frederick, Ballenger Creek, Eldersburg, Westminster, Reisterstown, Cockeysville, Germantown, Damascus, Lisbon and Jarrettsville.

Areas under the frost advisory include: Baltimore, Prince George's, Anne Arundel, Charles, Montgomery and Howard counties, as well as the cities of Baltimore, Bowie, Suitland-Silver Hill, Clinton, College Park, Greenbelt, Laurel, Camp Springs, Glen Burnie, Annapolis, Severn, South Gate, Severna Park, Arnold, Odenton, St. Charles, Waldorf, Bethesda, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, Columbia and Ellicott City.

The hazardous weather outlook is for the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, Tidal Potomac River, and I-95 corridor through central Maryland, northern Virginia, and District of Columbia.

"Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly," the NWS said. "Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing."

Elsewhere, frost is possible along with temperatures near freezing overnight Sunday into Monday morning. Frost or freeze conditions may kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

Here's the Baltimore-area forecast from the National Weather Service:

Saturday Afternoon: Cloudy, with a high near 55. Northeast wind around 8 mph.

Saturday Night: Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 40. Light and variable wind.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 62. East wind 5 to 7 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 42. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 66. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 45.
