I-95 Reopens After Tractor-Trailer Fire Near Baltimore

Interstate 95 was temporarily closed in both directions due to a vehicle fire near the Baltimore City, Baltimore County line.

BALTIMORE โ€” A vehicle fire temporarily shut down all lanes of Interstate 95 Wednesday afternoon, according to state transportation officials. The crash required more than three hours to clear.

A tractor-trailer overturned on I-95 near the exit for Caton Avenue around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, the Maryland Transportation Authority reported.

Smoke billowed from the scene, while firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded to the crash.

"Avoid I-95 in Baltimore City," the Maryland Transportation Authority advised around 1:40 p.m. "Use I-695 as an alternative route."

The tractor-trailer had hit a disabled vehicle on the right side of the highway, then rammed into another vehicle, after which two people were hospitalized with what were believed to be non life-threatening injuries, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Some lanes on I-95 north and south had reopened by 1:45 p.m., officials said, but congestion remained in the area.

At 4:40 p.m., the Maryland Transportation Authority reported that all lanes had reopened.
