A car alarm alerted the vehicle owner that something was wrong, officials said.

BEL AIR, MD — Investigators are working to determine what caused the fire that destroyed a man's vehicle Friday morning in Bel Air.

The vehicle owner was in the 1200 block of Saint Francis Road when he heard the car alarm sounding and saw heavy smoke coming from inside his 2009 Nissan Rogue, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

The fire was reported at 11:45 a.m. After the owner attempted to put it out with a garden hose and fire extinguishers, officials said 10 firefighters brought the blaze under control within five minutes.
