Longtime Bel Air Employee Joyce Oliver Retires

Joyce Oliver has been a fixture of Bel Air Town Hall for nearly three decades.

After 28 years of service, the director of administration is retiring. Her last day is Dec. 27.

“There’s a reason that Bel Air is the way it is and it’s because of people like you,” Mayor Edward Hopkins said to Oliver during Monday's town hall meeting.

Each member of the Bel Air Board of Commissioners had something positive to say about Oliver.

"The qualities that come to mind when I think of Joyce Oliver, first of all she’s a very hard working person,” Commissioner David Carey said. "She’s also someone who’s always fair."

Commissioners Robert Reier and Robert Preston agreed that without Oliver, their time in town government would not have run as smoothly.

"She was always there to point me in the right direction," Preston said.

Oliver and her husband will be moving out of state not long after her retirement.

A reception was held in Oliver's honor following Monday's meeting.
