The City of Bowie Celebrates Arbor Day

This Saturday, April 28, the City of Bowie will celebrate Arbor Day, where they will receive their twentieth consecutive Tree City USA award, given by the National Arbor Day Foundation.

This award is granted annually to those communities meeting prescribed objectives in the planting, maintenance, and preservation of the urban forest.

The ceremony will be attended by local dignitaries, including Bowie Mayor Frederick Robinson and some city council members. In addition to the award presentation, there will also be a ceremonial planting of an Arbor Day tree, said Rick Kellner, Community Forester for Bowie.

Kellner, his staff, and selected contractors are responsible for maintaining the more than 17,000 trees that occupy public space in Bowie, including street trees and trees in public parks and on city property.

The City of Bowie's annual Arbor Day observance ceremonies will be conducted at Acorn Hill Park, located on Stonybrook Drive at Sage Lane, on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.

Program attendees will be presented with Arbor Day cards, compliments of the City of Bowie.
