Broadneck Wrestling Coach Harrell Steps Down

Scott Harrell has announced he hopes to focus more on his career and family.

Broadneck Wrestling Coach Harrell Steps Down

Broadneck High School's wrestling coach for nearly a decade will be leaving the school in the same year that his son won the state championship title for the second time.

Scott Harrell announced recently that he would no longer be the coach of the school's wrestling team, and he hopes to spend more time focusing on his family.

In a post on online forum MarylandWrestling.org, Harrell explained his reasons for leaving.

"After seven years I am stepping down in an effort to focus my efforts on my family and career. I would like to Thank the Maryland wrestling community for all the support that has been shown to me and my family over the years. While I may not be in the corner for Broadneck any longer I will always be in the corner of Maryland wrestling," Harrell wrote.

Harrell also said the school was looking for a viable replacement, and stood up for the school's reputation.

"There is great parental support and they really appreciate what the sport does for their children. The kids are the best...both on the mat and off," he wrote.

Harrell's son Cameron Harrell captured the Class 4A/3A state championship title earlier this month—the second time in his wrestling career. The Broadneck student has also said that he is considering leaving the school in the fall, stating there were more opportunities elsewhere.
