Homeowner Finds Stolen Property on Craigslist After Burglary

An Edgewater burglary victim told Anne Arundel County Police that he found his missing items on Craigslist, which led to an arrest, but also a word of caution from law enforcement.

Officers were called on Jan 26 to a residence in the 2800 Block of Solomons Island Road in Edgewater on a burglary report. The victim reported that his shed had been broken into and numerous items were taken.

Southern District detectives got another call from the victim on Feb. 3 telling them he believed he had located his missing property on Craigslist. With the help of detectives, the man posed as a buyer of the advertised property and had the seller meet him at an Annapolis area business, according to a news release from police.

Detectives confronted the suspect and recovered all of the stolen property. The victim identified the suspect as someone he saw on his property before the burglary, and recognized the suspect’s vehicle.

Michael David Bojanowski, 53, of 602 Oakland Hills Drive, Apartment 301 in Arnold, was charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary, and theft under $1,000.

Police said the victim in this case appropriately called detectives once he believed he located his stolen property, which allowed detectives to safely take the suspect into custody and return all of the missing items.

Detectives urge victims who may find themselves in a similar situation to contact the police for guidance and assistance prior to taking any action.
