Updated: 18-Year-Old Assaulted Near BHS, Hospitalized for Facial Injury

Correction: This story was updated to reflect the age of the victim, an 18-year-old male. Earlier indications were that he was 15.

A student suffered life-threatening injuries Friday afternoon after  "an altercation" near Broadneck High School, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department officials.

5:05 p.m. - Police say the victim was an 18-year-old male who may have been a former student at Broadneck High School. They are still looking into it, said John McAndrew, spokesman for Anne Arundel County Police.

The victim received a injury to his face during an assault near the school.

"What we know at this point is that an 18-year-old, possibly a former student, was assaulted by who we suspect is a juvenile," McAndrew said. "He was taken to University of Maryland for treatment. The injury is considered serious, but stable at this point."

A detective has been assigned to investigate the case. The identity of the victim has not yet been disclosed.

3:20 p.m. - Anne Arundel County Police spokesman confirms that they were called to an assault at Southview Drive at 2:15 p.m.

3:05 p.m. - The incident did not happen on school grounds, according to Maneka Monk, public information officer for Anne Arundel County Schools.

"We're still working with police, sorting out the details ourselves. But it occurred in a neighborhood off of school grounds," Monk said. "We are certain that it did not happen on school property."

2:55 p.m. - Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Michael Cox said he did not know the nature of the altercation, or specifically how the teen was injured. The injuries were life-threatening, and the teenager was being flown out to an area hospital.

Cox also clarified that emergency dispatchers had arrived at the intersections of Southview Drive and Chestnut Tree Drive, which places the incident closer to Broadneck High School.

2:32 p.m. - Emergency dispatchers were sent to Blue Ridge Drive in Cape St. Claire after a 15-year-old suffered head trauma. A helicopter was contacted to make transport.
