Kamenetz Invites Catonsville to “Coffee with Kevin”

Catonsville residents will have a chance to talk directly to Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz about concerns and issues at a community forum Jan. 31.

Kamenetz will hold “Coffee with Kevin” from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Bloomsbury Community Center, 106 Bloomsbury Ave. It is open to the public without preregistration. Coffee and doughnuts will be served.

Kamenetz said in a statement that previous forums held in Lansdowne, Parkville, Perry Hall and Pikesville have been informative.

"When I have the opportunity to hear directly from community members in an unfiltered manner, it is a very good thing," he said.

At least one resident who has spoken to Kamenetz previously said in the statement she is looking forward to the forum.

"I am very excited that the county executive is coming to my community to meet with residents," said Denise Avara, president of the Westowne Elementary School PTA. "We've worked so well with him on school overcrowding issues, and it will be great to have an opportunity to talk about other issues as well. I really like the fact that there is no agenda, and people can simply bring up any issue they want to discuss."

The forums are one part of the county’s efforts to increase transparency and responsiveness in government, according to the statement. County officials are using Facebook and Twitter, as well as a regular blog  Baltimore County Now, to communicate directly with the public.

Kamenetz encouraged the public to follow him on social media.

"It's a great tool for keeping county residents informed. I hope that everyone in Baltimore County will follow us online and stay connected with County government through social media," he said.
