12:39 p.m. Update: A Baltimore County police officer shot a suspect who attempted to ram the officer's cruiser after a routine traffic stop, according to officials.

At around 11:35 a.m., an officer stopped a white late-model Toyota RAV 4 in an alley behind the 700 block of Frederick Road in Catonsville because the driver was acting suspiciously, according to Capt. John Spiroff, commander of Precinct 1/Wilkens.

The driver of the SUV attempted to ram the police car, and the officer fired his weapon once, striking the victim in the arm, according to Spiroff.

The SUV left the scene, and the officer issued a bulletin for other police to look for the vehicle, Spiroff said.

Within minutes, the vehicle was located in the parking lot of the Catonsville High School athletic field off Bloomsbury Avenue.

The suspect, described by Spiroff as a white male in his 30s, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. He is expected to survive, Spiroff said.

Police have not yet released the identity of the suspect.

Police spokesperson Elise Armacost said that rumors that the shooting was at CHS are incorrect. The school was not on lock-down during the incident, according to Armacost.

12:19 p.m. story: Baltimore County police are on the scene of a police involved shooting that started as a routine traffic stop in Catonsville.

Police pulled over over the driver of a Toyota RAV 4 after officers observed the driver acting suspiciously. During the traffic stop, the driver attempted to drive away. The driver was ultimately shot in the arm, according to Capt. John Spiroff, commander of Precinct 1/Wilkens.

A chase of the vehicle ultimately ended near the athletic fields at Catonsville High School.
