Howard Hughes announced the purchase of a 169,700-square-foot office building in Dowtown Columbia on Monday. The building, 70 Corporate Center, is located at 11000 Broken Land Parkway, adjacent to the mall and was built in 1992.
Howard Hughes believes the building is an opportunity to add additional office tenants as well as possible restaurant and entertainment venues, according to a release announcing the decision.
The building is also adjacent to the development area where Howard County approved up to 5,500 new residential units, 4.3 million square feet of commercial office space and 1.25 million square feet of retail space to be built over the next 30 years.
The move also comes soon after Howard Hughes at the former Rouse Company headquarters and showed plans for the —a residential building containing 380 units with first floor retail stores.
“This well-located, notable office building serves as a strong addition to our holdings in downtown Columbia,” said John DeWolf, senior vice president of development for The Howard Hughes Corp. “The purchase of 70 Corporate Center helps solidify our company’s commitment to downtown Columbia and its future redevelopment.”
