We spoke to the owners of Second Chance tonight, who are not overly optimistic about retaining their lease. The property owner, Cedar Realty Trust, claims that approximately $500,000 worth of work is needed on the building to justify keeping the business open. Realistically, the tenants and patrons do not see the basis for this figure. Calvin Ball and Ken Ulman have been involved in the effort to persuade Cedar Realty Trust to renew Second Chance's lease beyond March, but their influence does not seem to be enough, so far. We strongly believe that the loss of the Second Chance will lead to the closure of Food Lion and other Village businesses. We encourage our neighbors to contact Calvin Ball, Ken Ulman (who is running for Lieutenant Governor), the Columbia Association, and Cedar Realty Trust to keep pressure on them to keep the Second Chance Saloon open. Thank you!
