BCPS Virtual Leadership Sessions Planned For Students

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Two new Baltimore County Student Councils events this September are designed to help students speak out and become stronger leaders. On Wednesday from 3 to 4 p.m., students can participate in an Instagram Live conversation with student member of the board Josh Muhumuza, a Dundalk High School senior, and BCSC Interim President Samantha Warfel, a 10th grade student at Hereford High. The live event will be held on the @TeamBCPS account.

The second event, a virtual leadership training for BCPS students, will take place Sept. 23 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is called PIVOT, which stands for Positive Informational Virtual Organizational Tips. The event features student-led workshops on service and philanthropy; mental health and social media engagement. All the workshops will introduce online tools that student participants can use to add to their own virtual presentations. Students are asked to register for PIVOT through an activity advisor or coach at their school.

“As we kick off this school year online, BCSC has been working to plan innovative and engaging ways to involve student leaders in virtual opportunities," said Warfel. “The unique aspect of the PIVOT event – being held in lieu of our usual annual fall camp – is that for the first time, BCSC will be inviting student leaders and advisors outside of student council groups to participate in the event. … BCSC has such a unique opportunity to reach students all across the county, and we would be remiss if we did not take advantage of this opportunity. We are excited to provide students with a space to have conversations and participate in workshops that can guide and benefit them in their virtual leadership endeavors this year."
