Maryland Shelter Takes in 300 Dogs
The Wicomico County Humane Society is asking for donations to help clean, feed and care for 300 puppy mill dogs.

EDEN, MD — A Maryland animal group is swamped with 300 dogs to care for from a reputed Eastern Shore puppy mill, say authorities.
Wicomico County Animal Control said Tuesday the dogs were surrendered after a kennel inspection. The State’s Attorney is evaluating whether charges will be filed.
For now, the hundreds of dogs – many of them Pomeranians in poor condition – are being care for by the Humane Society of Wicomico County.

Inspectors found 200 dogs inside an Eden area barn last week, while another 100 were found inside a house on the property. The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office said it took deputies and animal control workers 14 hours to remove all the dogs.
The dogs were found in cramped cages, with little air circulation, with their fur matted by feces, authorities told WBOC.

As soon as legal approval is given, dogs will be moved to other rescue groups to help share the burden of care, the humane society says. The facility is accepting donations of money and materials to help care for the doggy onslaught.
Money can be donated via the Humane Society’s website using the Pay Pal link. Officials encourage supporters not to use other websites.
This ensures the money comes directly to the Humane Society of Wicomico County to offset the “overwhelming expenses of medications, grooming, and other care for our animals,” the group says.
The Humane Society website will be updated as animals are available for adoption.
