Maryland Weather: Wind Advisory, Bridge Restrictions, More Snow Possible

BREAKING: Transportation officials have issued travel advisories for drivers taking several bridges.

The windy conditions in much of Maryland will not blow over until Thursday evening, weather officials say. To protect drivers, transportation officials have issued restrictions and warnings on several bridges.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory until 6 p.m. for Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Harford and St. Mary's counties. A gale warning has been issued for the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River as well.

Winds will be 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph on Thursday, the weather service advised, making driving difficult for high-profile vehicles. Afternoon snow showers may also complicate travel because coupled with wind, officials said there would be limited visibility.

To keep drivers safe, the Maryland Transportation Authority has enacted limited wind restrictions at the Bay, Hatem and Tydings bridges. It also issued wind warnings for the Key and Nice bridges.

During limited wind restrictions, winds are greater than 40 mph and house trailers, empty box trailers or any vehicle law enforcement officers think may not safely cross are prohibited from traveling on the bridge. Drivers denied passage will be assisted with turning around.
