Maryland Ties For Worst Commute Time In U.S.

Maryland tied for the worst commute time in the U.S., plus a city-by-city breakdown of times in the state. Who has the worst drive?

ANNAPOLIS, MD — You always knew your commute was a nightmare, right Maryland? Californians talk about gridlock on their freeways, New Yorkers complain about backed-up commuter rails and roads. But recently released data from the U.S. Census Bureau confirms that Maryland is tops in terrible traffic.

The American Community Survey done by the agency asked questions on more than 40 topics and compiled the results over the last five years. Questions included commute times for residents in dozens of communities in Maryland.

A Capital News Service look at the numbers put them all in a graphic from worst to best. Maryland ties with New York for the worst/longest commutes. California, home to traffic-ridden Los Angeles, is seventh on the list. (Below the graphic find 103 Maryland communities ranked by their drive time.)
