Wind Advisory For Maryland, Northern Virginia Issued

BALTIMORE, MD — The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Christmas Day. The advisory area includes most of Maryland, the District of Columbia and parts of northern Virginia.

The wind advisory is effective from 3 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 25.

Gusts may be up to 50 mph, with west winds averaging 15 to 25 mph, weather officials said; winds of 45 to 55 mph trigger wind advisories.

During the advisory period, driving may be difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Trees, power lines and limbs may blow down, officials say.

Weather authorities advise scattered power outages are anticipated.

A gale warning is also in effect for tidal waters.

The wind advisory includes Maryland counties of Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Carroll, Charles, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's and Washington as well as Baltimore City. The District of Columbia is included as are these areas of Virginia: Alexandria, Arlington, Clarke, Fairfax, Falls Church, Fauquier, Jefferson, Loudoun, Manassas and Manassas Park.

Specific towns and cities that weather officials said may be impacted include Aberdeen, Annapolis, Ballenger Creek, Baltimore, Bethesda, Bowie, California, Camp Springs, Chesapeake Beach, Clinton, Cockeysville, College Park, Columbia, Damascus, Dunkirk, Eldersburg, Ellicott City, Frederick, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Glen Burnie, Hagerstown, Huntingtown, Jarrettsville, Laurel, Lexington Park, Lisbon, Lusby, North Beach, Odenton, Prince Frederick, Reisterstown, Rockville, Severn, Severna Park, Silver Spring, South Gate, St. Charles, Suitland-Silver Hill, Waldorf, Washington and Westminster in Maryland; and Berryville, Dale City, Manassas, Woodbridge, Lake Ridge, Montclair, Reston, Herndon, Annandale,, Centreville, Chantilly, McLean, Franconia, Arlington, Alexandria, Warrenton, Purcellville, Leesburg, Ashburn and Sterling in Virginia.
