Massive Fire Erupts In Northern Baltimore County

Firefighters converged in the Phoenix area Monday morning to battle a house fire.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Officials said one person was hospitalized as the result of a fire Monday morning in Baltimore County. The fire broke out before 2 a.m. near Jacksonville.

Crews said they found a large residence engulfed in flames in the unit block of Glenberry Court, where they were dispatched at 1:57 a.m.

After ensuring all residents were out of the house, firefighters battled the blaze, which was challenging for several reasons.

First, the rural location meant that there were no fire hydrants readily available. Crews from surrounding fire companies brought tankers filled with water to assist. Even if there had been fire hydrants in the neighborhood, officials noted the blaze was so large when crews arrived that the house would likely have been destroyed regardless.

There was a 500-gallon oil tank in the home that required special attention, officials reported.

Conditions around the fire ground were ever changing. Multiple collapses happened during the firefighting operation, and crews fought the fire from the exterior due to the instability of the structure of the home. In addition, officials said there was a secondary blaze; a brush fire broke out as a result of the house fire, and crews promptly snuffed it out.

As a result of the house fire, one resident was injured, authorities said; first responders took the victim to the hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, Baltimore County public safety officials reported.

The Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company reported that it was one of the agencies that responded to the incident:
