The odds of picking the correct Powerball grand prize numbers are about 1 in 292 million, which stays the same regardless of the number of players or size of the jackpot.
Players have a better chance of winning the Powerball jackpot if they let the computer select their numbers, according to lottery officials — about 75 percent of winning tickets over the years had electronically generated numbers.
Winners can choose either to have the full jackpot amount paid out in 30 installments over 29 years, or they can take one lump sum payment that is smaller than the actual total.
