MARYLAND — In the past day, 854 cases of the new coronavirus have been confirmed in Maryland, state health officials said Monday morning. Now 13,684 people statewide have tested positive for COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus, according to the Maryland Department of Health.

The state's death toll from the virus is 516 Monday morning, an increase of 30 since Sunday. An additional 66 Marylanders are categorized as "probable deaths," since lab tests are required to verify they had the virus but their death certificates list COVID-19 as a cause of death.

Since Sunday, 128 people have been hospitalized due to the new coronavirus, which has put 3,014 people in the hospital in Maryland since COVID-19 was first discovered in the state in early March.
