Food Rescue Group Partners To Feed Baltimore Area Immigrants

Produce and bread are two staples in the Amigos of Baltimore County/4mycity food distribution operation, organizers say.

TIMONIUM, MD — More than 4,000 immigrant families have received food in the past month on Sundays at the Maryland State Fairgrounds through a partnership between two organizations.

To assist those struggling through the coronavirus pandemic, Amigos of Baltimore County and 4mycity have transformed the parking lot at the fairgrounds' horse sales pavilion into a drive-thru food distribution site where they give out donations.

The food is available to all those in need, and it reportedly features produce/fruit and bread as its centerpiece.

Baltimore County Woman of the Year Alejandra Ivanovich, who is a Latino community advocate, helped start the food program through Amigos of Baltimore County, of which she is the leader. She said she was inspired to get involved after a mother of five called and asked her for help.

After crying out and through prayer, Ivanovich said she received this divinely inspired message: "If your people cannot get food, then you bring them food."

People who would like to contribute can donate to 4mycity, a nonprofit focused on food rescue and sustainable management of food, including diverting food from being wasted.

"We rescued 235,000 pounds of food this month," 4mycity reported Thursday.

Those entering the food distribution site should go in through the digital sign near 2200 York Road at the main gate. The distribution will run from 11 a.m. Sunday, May 10, until supplies run out.
