MD Coronavirus Positivity Rate Drops 70 Percent From April Peak
Maryland's coronavirus positivity rate has dropped to 8 percent, a more than 70 percent drop from its April 17 peak, Gov. Hogan said.
MARYLAND — The state of Maryland completed 12,490 tests for the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, Gov. Larry Hogan said Saturday morning. The state positivity rate has dropped to 8 percent, a more than 70 percent drop from its April 17 peak, the governor said.
Including the tests from the past 24 hours, Maryland has conducted 417,904 coronavirus tests as of Saturday, with 57,482 people testing positive, an increase of 712 positive cases from Friday, the Maryland Department of Health reported.
A total of 2,616 people in the state have died from COVID-19, an increase of 36 deaths since Friday's report, according to the Maryland Department of Health.

As of Saturday, state health data shows the following about COVID-19 deaths in Maryland:
- 86.7 percent of the state's coronavirus deaths have been people age 60 and older.
- 52.3 percent of those who died from COVID-19 are residents of congregate living facilities.
- 46.0 percent of those who have died from the virus have been 80 years or older.
- 45.3 percent of the deaths are in Montgomery and Prince George's counties.
- 24.3 percent of the deaths are in Baltimore County and Baltimore City.
Currently, there are 1,059 patients hospitalized with the virus, including 418 on the intensive care unit, down from 455 in ICU on Friday, Maryland health officials said.

More Maryland businesses were allowed to open at 5 p.m. Friday as Maryland entered stage two of its recovery plan. Local jurisdictions in Maryland, though, have the authority to be more restrictive than the state in reopening. See where each stands in the reopening process.
"Moving into stage two does not mean that this crisis is behind us or that we can afford to stop being vigilant and cautious," Hogan said at a news conference announcing the reopening. "Continue practicing physical distancing — staying 6 feet apart and avoiding crowds and close gatherings."
