MARYLAND — As more businesses reopen in Maryland, coronavirus-related hospitalizations continue to trend down. For 26 days, the number of hospital patients with the virus has decreased, according to data from the Maryland Department of Health.
For the first time in 20 days, the number of coronavirus patients on the intensive care unit (ICU) with the virus increased from Sunday to Monday, albeit only by two people.
Now there are 602 people hospitalized with the virus, including 232 in the ICU, officials said Monday.

Six days ago, there were 702 people hospitalized with the virus and 283 people in the ICU. Also during that time, 79 Marylanders have died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.
Many who have the virus experience mild symptoms or none at all, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 35 percent of people with the virus are asymptomatic, meaning they do not have symptoms; however, they can still spread the virus to others.

With more parts of Maryland reopening, state officials say coronavirus testing is increasingly important to ensure that potential outbreaks are identified and contained.
Malls, bowling alleys and gyms were allowed to reopen at 5 p.m. Friday, June 19.
"Getting tested for COVID-19 is even more critical as we continue to reopen," Gov. Larry Hogan said in a statement Monday. "We now have nearly 180 major testing sites available statewide."
In the past day, the Maryland Department of Health reported almost 300 new positive coronavirus cases in Maryland, while the number of negative test results grew by about 5,400.
Approximately 64,600 people in Maryland have tested positive for the coronavirus, state health officials reported Monday. More than 410,000 people have tested negative.
The positivity rate in the state is 5.03 percent on a rolling, seven-day average, according to state officials.
