Positions Open On Committees, Board For BCPS Students

A middle school liaison or parliamentarian is needed on the BCSC executive board. Five committees need members or chairs. Apply by Sept. 18.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Students in grades sixth through ninth are encouraged to apply for a position on the Baltimore County student councils executive board and committees. The application deadline is Sept. 18.

Positions are available to serve as middle school liaison or parliamentarian on the BCSC executive board and to serve as a member or chair on one of the following five BCSC committees:

  • General services – advocating for improvements to food services, maintenance services, school buildings, technology and transportation
  • Infrastructure – advocating for improvements of structural components of the school system – curriculum, mental health resources, school climate – that impact students’ everyday lives
  • Environmental – promoting awareness and advocating for environmental issues
  • Election – planning and implementing student elections and promoting their fairness
  • Racial Equity – promoting awareness of and advocating for racial equity within the school system

“We invite every BCPS student interested in leadership and interested in contributing to improving the school system to apply for these openings," said Samantha Warfel, interim BCSC president and a rising grade 10 student at Hereford High School. “We want to involve diverse students from every area of the county so that all student voices are being heard. We are hopeful that hosting all meetings and events virtually this year will make it easier for more students to participate."

Applications for all positions require a letter of recommendation from a teacher or student council advisor. Executive board members are required to attend all monthly BCSC executive board meetings, all BCSC general assembly meetings and the BCSC fall leadership workshop. Committee members are required to attend monthly BCSC committee meetings. All BCSC meetings and events this year will be virtual.
