The virtual summit will be Feb. 10 from noon to 1 p.m. featuring students sharing original poetry, a TED Talk and games about Black history.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Baltimore County Public Schools students are invited to participate in a Black History Month Summit Feb. 10 from noon to 1 p.m. Students can access the Google Meet event using the code BlackHistorySummit. The summit will feature students sharing original poetry, a TED Talk, games about Black history and a panel discussion with Joquetta Johnson and Dominic Smith, specialists in the BCPS Department of Equity and Cultural Proficiency.

"Baltimore County Student Councils views our first annual Black History Month Summit as an opportunity to honor the history, culture and resilience of Black people in Baltimore County and beyond,” said Nic Oke, an 11th grade student at Towson High School Law and Public Policy and chair of the BCSC Diversity & Equity Affairs Committee. “It is important for us to have these spaces and moments to reconcile our history of discrimination and injustice in our nation, and to engage in discussion as to how we can combat current inequalities and move forward. This is exactly what we hope to accomplish through the activities, performances and conversations at this event."
