MD Weekend Events: Chess Day, Bands And Brews, Books In Bloom Festival, Salsa In The Park

This weekend fall fests pop up across the state, there's a first annual chess tournament, and a book festival hosts prize-winning speakers.

MARYLAND — "The Queen's Gambit" fans can try their own hand at reaching the finals at one Maryland town's first annual national chess day tournament. Players confident in their abilities can enter into one of the competition brackets and newcomers can sign up for a beginners class.

If chess isn't your thing, there are plenty of other ways to spend your time this weekend. Some highlights are a horse show, salsa in the park, a talk from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Nikole Hannah-Jones at a literary festival, a dinosaur month paleontology field experience and more.
