MD Weather: Rounds Of Rain Expected Mother's Day Weekend
Several inches of rain could soak Maryland over Mother's Day weekend and bring cooler than normal temperatures, forecasters say.
MARYLAND — Heavy rain is expected to soak much of Maryland over the Mother's Day weekend, potentially leaving several inches of rain in the state by Sunday, forecasters said. The deluge, which is expected to arrive on Friday, will affect much of the eastern seaboard.
"Warm front begins to lift northward late tonight and into Friday morning, bringing the start of a wet couple of days to our front door," the National Weather Service in Baltimore said Thursday morning.
The storm will spread soaking rain from the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic coast from Friday to Saturday, AccuWeather reports.

"A storm rolling in from the central United States will slow down long enough to make rain a two-day event and put a damper on Mother's Day weekend for portions of the central Appalachians and mid-Atlantic regions," AccuWeather meteorologists said.
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Mid-Atlantic from Friday through Saturday morning. The hazards possible from those thunderstorms are frequent lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gusts, hail, and a few tornadoes.

Winds along the mid-Atlantic coast will lead to rough surf, minor coastal flooding and beach erosion this weekend. "From coastal New York to Virginia, east to northeast winds are likely to blow steadily between 15 and 25 mph with gusts frequenting 35-50 mph," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dave Dombek said.

The storm will bring some chillier than normal temperatures into the state on Saturday night, with the low dropping to around 45, forecasters said.
The National Weather Service calls the front a "slow moving storm system" that "will bring a raw east wind & rain to the region starting on Friday, continuing through Saturday, finally ending on Mother's Day."
Up to three-quarters of inch of rain is possible on Friday, 2 inches on Friday night, and rain continuing through Saturday night, forecasters said. Showers are expected to end Sunday, when rain chances drop to 30 percent.
