Man Jumps Off Yacht To Retrieve Dinghy, Drowns: Officials
A man who jumped off a yacht to retrieve a dinghy drowned in the Rhode River; his body was recovered Sunday near Harwood, officials say.
HARWOOD, MD — A man who jumped off a yacht to retrieve a dinghy drowned in the Rhode River Sunday afternoon near Harwood, officials said. The mishap was reported at 3:40 p.m. and the unidentified swimmer's body was recovered just before 6:30 p.m., according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
Firefighters were called to the area of the Rhode River near Locust Point. A 9-1-1 caller reported that the man jumped off a yacht in the 1300 block of Cumberstone Road in Harwood. The man went under the water and did not surface. Divers were called to search the area, locating the body Sunday evening.
The victim was declared dead at the scene.

Other agencies that helped in the sears were the Annapolis Fire Department, Maryland Natural Resources Police, Maryland State Police Aviation Command, and the United States Coast Guard.
