SUV Driver Cited for Hitting Cyclist, Road Rage: Police

Police say a Davidsonville man struck an Edgewater bicyclist with his SUV, then threw the injured rider's bike tire into the woods.

A collision between an SUV and a bicyclist in Davidsonville reportedly escalated into road rage as the SUV driver assaulted the biker, who had suffered broken bones in the crash, police say.

Anne Arundel County Police say the crash happened about 11 a.m. Saturday at St. George Barber Road and Governors Bridge Road in Davidsonville. A witness told police that after the collision, the driver of a tan SUV assaulted the bike rider, picked up a bicycle tire and threw it into the nearby woods.

The SUV driver -- Michael John Moody, 61, of Malvern Hill Court in Davidsonville -- reportedly left the scene, but was stopped by police nearby on Riva Road.

The cyclist/victim, a 59-year-old Edgewater man, told police he was riding south on St. George Barber Road with the SUV behind him. As the vehicle drew closer, the cyclist said he waved at Moody to pass him.

Once they reached a curve in the road, police say the cyclist moved to the middle portion of the road to be visible to oncoming traffic and to block the SUV from passing on the curve.
