A terrier was critically injured in North Beach Sunday when it was pulled through the fence slats of its yard and attacked by an American bulldog, according to a release issued by Anne Arundel County police.
A witness told police that an American bulldog, weighing approximately 105 pounds, was running loose in the area of Bay Front Avenue in North Beach Sunday afternoon. The bulldog approached the witnesses' neighbor's yard, where an approximately 20 pound carin terrier was barking behind a fence, according to police.
The bulldog then used it's teeth to pull the terrier through the fence slats, the witness told police. Police say the owner of the terrier tried to intervene by prying the bulldog's jaws apart. She was able to free the terrier, but sustained a minor bite on her left hand, police said.
The terrier was taken to an animal hospital in Annapolis, in critical condition. Animal control took possession of the bulldog. The incident is still under investigation.
