Two Killed in Head-On Edgewater Crash: Police

Two St. Mary's County residents were killed, and an Edgewater woman was seriously injured in the Sunday crash.

EDGEWATER MD, — A St. Mary’s County driver and his passenger died in a head-on, three-vehicle crash near Edgewater on Sunday afternoon, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

The crash happened just before 4:30 p.m. on Solomons Island Road near Swallow Lane in Edgewater.

Witnesses told police a 2011 Honda Civic driven by Daniel Brian Amos, 21, of California, MD, was northbound when it was reportedly struck a southbound Toyata head-on in the vicinity of the shoulder. The 2002 Toyota Camry was driven by Lauren Renee Scott, 27, of the 1000 block of Skiff Cove Road in Edgewater

A 2008 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Joseph M. Smith, 32, of Georgetown, DE, also southbound just behind the Camry, then struck both vehicles in the roadway. causing the Honda to overturn.

Amos was declared dead at the scene by Fire Department personnel and was taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Baltimore.

The passenger in the Honda -- Kayla Nicole Amos, 20, also of California, MD --was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with critical injuries. Police say she died at Shock Trauma Monday morning.

Scott was taken by ground ambulance to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with serious injuries.

Smith suffered minor injuries and refused treatment.

The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be Amos’ failure to remain right of center. Neither alcohol nor speed appears to be a contributing factor.

Any charges are pending a review by the State’s Attorney.
