Water Shut Off Friday Afternoon at Two Elkridge Schools (Updated)

A broken water pipe spurred the decision.

Water Shut Off Friday Afternoon at Two Elkridge Schools (Updated)

This story was updated at 2:13 p.m. Friday.

Water was shut off Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at Elkridge Elementary School and Elkridge Landing Middle School after a broken water pipe nearby caused issues, a school administrator said in an email alert Friday.

The Howard County Department of Education sent a water truck to the area to keep the school toilets flushed, according to the notice sent via email Friday.

Water will be shut down after all school lunches have been served, according to a note to the school community from Diane Mumford, Elkridge Elementary School principal.

Also, there will be bottled water available to staff and students, school officials said.

The water pipe broke along the Elkridge Landing/Elkridge Elementary School access road, the notice said.

Elkridge Landing Middle School is located at 7085 Montgomery Road and Elkridge Elementary School is at 7075 Montgomery Road.

Elkridge Landing School officials also sent the following instructions to parents and friends of the school, in regards to dismissal procedures Friday, which were revised due to the water main leak under the school driveway leading to the bus loop:

1. Students will be walking to the upper lot to meet their buses. There will be plenty of staff on hand to escort them, and other traffic will not be allowed down the driveway until the buses have left.

2. For our parents who will be picking up students by car: Please delay your arrival at school until 3:00 so that we can avoid having too much traffic on Montgomery Road. Car riders will wait in the cafeteria until the buses have departed then students will make their way to the upper lot to meet parents.
