Ellicott City Local Named Goalkeeper of the Year

Marriott's Ridge graduate boasts second-best save percentage in the nation.

Ellicott City Local Named Goalkeeper of the Year

D3Soccer.com has named an Ellicott City native Goalkeeper of the Year.

Paul Killian, a senior of Stevens Institute of Technology, clinched the NCAA Sweet 16 conference title for the team with one of his two saves in the final penalty shutout, according to DCSoccer.com. In the process, he also earned tournament MVP honors.

The Marriott's Ridge graduate had a 0.910 save percentage - the nation's second best, according to D3Soccer.com. Facing an average of four shots-on-goals per outing, he ends the season with a 0.33 goals against average - third in the nation.

Killian and the Stevens Institute Ducks had nine straight shutouts during the Empire 8 regular season and tournament championship. He was also selected for the Empire 8 All-Conference first team, according to D3Soccer.com.

Killian's assistant coach, Zach Carr, was also a D3Soccer.com Goalkeeper of the Year in 2010.

"We are very excited for Paul, this is a great honor for him and the program,” Stevens head coach  Devin Rensing said on StevensDucks.com. “Paul is absolutely a great goalie, but he is also a tremendous leader. Again, we are all very excited for this much-deserved award.”
