First Snowfall of 2012 Comes and Goes

Ellicott City saw a few flakes today, but there's no precipitation in the rest of the week's forecast.

First Snowfall of 2012 Comes and Goes

Did you catch that?

The first snow of 2012 deposited a delicate dust late Tuesday morning over the Baltimore/D.C. region, following a warmer than average November and December.

The Washington Post’s weather blog,  Capital Weather Gang, reported on  its Twitter feed Tuesday morning that snow showers were occurring on the Baltimore and Howard county line. BWI also reported show showers Tuesday morning  on Twitter.

The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook Tuesday morning for the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. region, where the light snow may have caused some icy spots on roads.

The snow stopped falling in Ellicott City just after noon, and was expected to stop falling through the region by 12:30 p.m.  according to the National Weather Service.

But according to readers on Ellicott City Patch's Facebook page, flakes wer "coming down hard" in a couple of areas for a bit.

This “hint” of winter came after a  warmer than average November and December, which  vexed ski resorts across the state during the holiday season, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Temperatures will be in the 30s and 40s for the rest of the week, but are expected to reach a  high of 54 on Saturday
