Another Duck Dunk On Tap For 2013

The Susquehanna Hose Company deemed Saturday's inaugural event a success.

In a city known for its unique seasonal events, made a splash.

When all is said and done, the fundraiser likely will generate $9,000 for 's volunteer fire company, Chief said Monday.

The event was so successful that most participants have agreed to dunk again in 2013.

"We have a lot of people telling us they're coming back next year," Hurst said. "Our goal was to raise $5,000, and I think we'll almost double that."

Hurst said t-shirts—like those presented to the participants and sold to spectators Saturday—are still available. Hurst added that he was overwhelmed by the amount of pledge funds raised by the participants.

The 31 dunkers who followed through with the event in the frigid Saturday weather raised more than $4,000, he said.

The dunk was held Saturday morning at the boat launch ramp at the . Dunkers hopped into the 37-degree water after paying an entry fee of $35 to plunge. Some dunkers raised more than $500 for the .

Hurst said there has been discussion already about next year's event, including expanding the activities at the for the morning of the dunk, and perhaps moving the dunk to the early afternoon to accommodate more activity prior to the dunk.
