Dogs, Cats and Literature at the Art Rooms
First is "The Town Goes to the Cats and Dogs" contest, benefiting the Humane Society of Harford County. Here's how it works. Come by The Art Rooms and purchase either a wooden dog or cat figurine or a 9 x 12 canvas board. Figurines cost $18 and canvas costs $10. For each figurine purchased, $2.50 of the purchase price goes to the Humane Society. But on top of that, The Art Rooms also provides a matching $2.50 donation, so a total of $5.00 is donated for every figurine.
Next, create your painting of a wonderful animal on your figurine or canvas and turn it in to The Art Rooms no later than Saturday, April 5 at 4:00 pm. In mid-April, judges from the Harford Community College's Art Department will judge the entries in separate categories for adults, youth and children. Winners will receive wonderful prizes.
A reception wrapping up the event will be held at The Art Rooms on Sunday, April 27 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, featuring "Woodwinds for a Cause," a group of music studio students of Beth Baker. Contact The Art Room for more details.
But that is not all! The Art Rooms also began its annual "Art in Literature" program on January 7 and it continues to run through March 1.
Visit their store on North Washington Street and look for "Manni," one of their store mannequins, in the $5.00 Bucket section of the store. While you are there, check out their 2014 art installation. It is free and open to the public. Meanwhile, Manni is carefully posed under mysterious circumstances, and it is your job to come up with the story of how he got there! Write up your story along with your best sketch of Manni in his awkward pose and deliver it to The Art Rooms no later than March 1. You can also email your story and sketch to firstname.lastname@example.org. Three winners will be chosen to receive a free gift bag of art materials!
So whether figurines, canvas or story writing with a sketch pad are your thing, there are programs for you going on right now at The Art Rooms!
The Art Rooms is located at 116 North Washington Street. Their phone number is (410)939-6424.
