Sheriff: Mother, Daughter Missing in Edgewood

A mother and daughter have disappeared from Edgewood, the sheriff's office said.

Sheriff: Mother, Daughter Missing in Edgewood

Detectives are asking for the public's help in finding a mother and daughter who disappeared from their Edgewood home earlier this month, according to a statement from the  Harford County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives said they do not suspect foul play.

Amanda Deeann Mitchell, 29, and Sanaa Elise Bailey, 5, left their home in the 2900 block of Siwanoy Drive in Edgewood on or around Jan. 10 with the bare essentials, according to the statement.

Detectives began investigating when Bailey's father, who lives in Baltimore, reported them missing a week later, the sheriff's office said. Both parents share custody of the child, according to the statement.

Mitchell was supposed to drop off Bailey for a visit with the child's father on Jan. 17, but she did not arrive and he was unable to get in touch with her, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

The following day, the father came to the Southern Precinct to report the incident, according to the statement.

Family members said it was "atypical behavior" for Mitchell to fail to allow visitation, according to the sheriff's office.

“We fully understand she is a custodial parent but her behavior is out of the norm for how people have described her," Detective Tom Walsh of the sheriff's office said. "We have conducted an investigation and can find no reason why she would do this. We need to know that both she and the child are OK and are asking for the public’s help in trying to find her."

Sanaa Elise Bailey was described as 4', 55 pounds, of thin build, with black shoulder-length braided hair pulled back into a ponytail and brown eyes.

Amanda Deanna Mitchell was described as 5'5", 135 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was driving a four-door burgundy 2005 Mitsubishi Galant.

Family members have been unable to reach Mitchell since her disappearance, according to sheriff's office spokesman Eddie Hopkins, who said they heard she was staying in homeless shelters in Baltimore City. Hopkins said detectives have visited the shelters but have been unable to find the woman and her daughter.

Anyone with information may contact Detective Tom Walsh at 410- 836-5408 or Detective Tammy Burns at 410-836-5043.
