Local Group to Host Happy Girl Fun Run on May 18

Happy Girl Run, a group spearheaded by five Harford and Cecil County women, will host the inaugural Happy Girl Run 5K on Sunday, May 18 at 8:00 a.m. at the Ma & Pa Trail in Bel Air to raise funds to help bring the national non-profit organization Girls on the Run to the area.

Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in third through eighth grade. The program teaches life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.

According to event organizers, the Happy Girl Run 5K is open to men, women and children of all ages and will be a family-friendly event for participants and spectators. The race will begin and end at the Liriodendron Mansion at 502 West Gordon Street, with monetary prizes awarded to the top three male and female finishers.

Registration is $20 through May 4, then increases to $25 through race day. To register, visit www.Active.comor www.happygirlrun.com. Event sponsorships are still being accepted and start as low as $50.00 for a bronze level sponsorship. For additional information on sponsorships and other ways to get involved, visit www.happygirlrun.com.
