Update, 12:17 p.m.:

Anne Arundel County police say the suspect in Wednesday morning's shooting outside the Laurel/Maryland City Walmart had robbed the store moments before he fired on an employee.

According to police, an unidentified man entered the store early Wednesday, approached a Walmart associate, and demanded money. The employee complied, turning over an undisclosed amount of store funds.

The employee was then forced outside into the parking lot, police said, where the suspect reportedly shot him and fled.

Officers from the AAPD's western district were called to the scene around 4:17 a.m., where they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Prince George's Hospital Center and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A few minutes after the initial call, police received a report of a car engulfed in flames nearby. Authorities believe the vehicle may belong to the alleged gunman, who remains at large.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing a dark mask, black pants, a black jacket, and a gray or white sweatshirt with a hood.

Anyone with information on this incident is ask to contact Det. Eric Wills of the Robbery Unit at 410-222-3432 (3566) or Metro Crime Stoppers.
