A number of Montgomery Village signs along Watkins Mill Road near the Gaithersburg border were tagged with red graffiti in recent days, the Montgomery Village Foundation president said Thursday.

The Montgomery Village South Entrance sign, along with two signs for the Clusters of Stedwick communities bore the colors Thursday morning. MVF President Bob Hydorn said he was driving along the road Tuesday night and didn't see anything.

"As far as I know it must have happened no earlier than yesterday," Hydorn said. "I watch very carefully for things as I drive around the community on a regular basis."

One of the tags on the South Entrance sign read "Wolf Pack Gang." Hydorn said he had never heard of the Wolf Pack Gang. Montgomery County police Capt. Jim Daly said he thinks the incident occurred after 11 p.m. Wednesday.

"Our Gang Unit is researching that group," Daly said. "They are not known to us but we are talking with neighboring police departments."

Hydorn and MVF Executive Vice President David B. Humpton said they would work to remove the tags as soon as possible.

"I find such damage incomprehensible," Hydorn said. "With all of the activities that are available for people in the region, why would anyone in their right mind do such things?"

Daly encouraged residents to report such incidents to the Montgomery County police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.
