5 Things to Check Out This Week, Jan. 23-28

Here's a list of five things going on in the area this week that could be either informative, fun, or just plain interesting.

When: Tuesday, 8 a.m.
Where: , Gambrills

Details: This month's chamber breakfast will feature Mike Livingston, the president and CEO of the Bank of Glen Burnie and chairman of the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp. He will talk to chamber members about the state of the regional economy. Cost is $20 for members, $30 for non-members. 

Board of Education Budget Workshop

When: Tuesday, 6 p.m.
Where: 2644 Riva Rd., Annapolis

Details: The school board will discuss details of the Superintendent Kevin Maxwell's proposed budget for fiscal year 2013. The meeting is open to the public but there will be no public comment session.

Old Mill vs. Arundel Wrestling

When: Wednesday, 7 p.m.
Where: Old Mill High

Details: These two county rivals take to the mat with a county title still possible. Arundel's Tyler Goodwin is coming off a stellar performance at the Spalding duals last week.

Fireside Tales at the West County Area Library

When: Thursday, 7 p.m.
Where: West County Area Library

Details: Kids aged 3 to 6 can show up at in their pajamas and enjoy cookies and cider while hearing some great stories.

Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge

When: Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m.
Where:

Details: There will be many locals participating in the annual chilly dip into the waters at Sandy Point State Park. On Friday, students from Arundel High will take part in the "Frigid Friday" plunge, while local firefighters and other groups are expected at Saturday's main plunge event.
