Future Dealers in Training at Maryland Live! School

The new casino is using space at Marley Station mall to train nearly 900 students in games ranging from craps to blackjack.

Future Dealers in Training at Maryland Live! School

The Maryland Live! casino is looking to hire hundreds of new dealers as it introduces live table games later this year. About 860 are now in training at Marley Station mall in Glen Burnie, where the casino has set up a dealer school in partnership with Anne Arundel Community College.

I stopped by Tuesday afternoon and saw scores of students in action as they learned the ins and outs of dealing blackjack, pai gow poker and baccarat, as well as other games including craps and roulette.

There were 9,000 applicants to the dealer school and 6,000 received interviews. Only 860 were accepted to the school. Most of those will be hired if they have a successful audition, according to Neal Slone, the casino's vice president of table games.

Maryland Live! will be adding 150 table games by spring. Between 30-40 new poker tables will come later following the construction of a new poker room.
