There is great shame for the gentleman who forgets that Valentine's Day is this Thursday.
I am here to remind you of the day and to give a few pointers on where to go for flowers, candy and other goodies.
I stopped by three flower shops in the Odenton-Severn area and can convey that there is no shortage of options for those looking to impress their mate.
Roses, of course, are the safe choice and can be had by the stem or by the bunch. Consider stopping in to Odenton Florist and get a dozen nicely wrapped roses for $41.95.
Willow Oak Flower and Herb Farm in Severn has similar prices for roses, or you could splurge further and get roses with other flowers in a vase for $100.
Of course, a single rose for $2.95 may also do the trick.
At Willow Oak, most flower arrangements include greens grown on the premises, and the staff could also include fresh witch hazel and Japanese plum.
At Little House of Flowers in Gambrills, owner Julie Upchurch and staff have grab-and-go bouquets, or they will make an arrangement for you as long as you call by Thursday morning.
If you want to try something different than roses, florists suggested tulips or orchids.
Maria Price-Nowakowski of Willow Oak said ranunculus flowers add great color to any bouquet.
In the non-flower department, Little House of Flowers' newest arrivals are items from Greenleaf Gifts, including new soaps, sprays and candles with spring scents.
Is your mate a lover of chocolates and other treats? All local shops have the traditional heart-shaped candy boxes, but for a unique gift, try the crystallized rose petals, imported from France and on sale at Willow Oak.
For another different treat, Little House of Flowers also has new chocolate-drizzled popcorn.
Need a card? Odenton Florist has many on sale for 20 percent off. Yankee Candles are also discounted.
Teddy bears? They are plentiful. Check out the Little House of Flowers and its selection of panda and polar bears, rabbits and even a little bear ballerina.
Service members and workers at Fort Meade can get items from Little House of Flowers Wednesday and Thursday near the PX.
No doubt, this is a busy time of year for florists, but they are there to help. Just don't wait until the last second!
